一.end用作动词
1.end用作动词的.基本意思是“结束”,通常指某一发展过程的最终结束。
2.end既可用作及物动词,也可用作不及物动词。
（1）在用作不及物动词时,常常与介词或副词构成短语;
How does the story end?故事结局如何?
Everything ended happily.结果是皆大欢喜。
（2）用作及物动词时,通常接名词或代词作宾语。可用于被动结构。
Something must be done to end the strike.
必须采取某种措施来结束这次罢工。
Let's end our quarrel.
我们不要再吵了。
3.end后常可接副词以加强语气。end up后可接“as+名词”、形容词、现在分词、过去分词和介词短语。
二.end用作名词
1.end的基本意思是“最后部分”“末尾”,引申可表示“端”“尽头”“梢”“终止”“死去”等。
2.end还可作“目的”解,是可数名词,说“达到目的”时常可与accomplish, achieve, attain,
3.compass, gain, obtain, reach, secure, win等动词连用。end作“结局”“结果”解时可加不定冠词。
4.at the end 在…的末尾
Owing to a long delay on the journey, he did not arrive until the meeting was at the end.
由于旅途耽搁时间很长,直到会议结束他才赶到。
He went on spending lavishly until his money was at the end.
他继续挥霍无度,直到把钱用光为止。
