Passage 1:

Rowena and Billy Wrangler are model high school students. They study very hardly.

They do extreme well on achievement tests. And next year, Rowena will attend to

Harvard University. Billy, her younger brother, hope to go to Cornell. That makes

Rowena and Billy different with most students is that they don’t go to school. In fact,

they’ve never been to school. Since kindergarten, they studied at home. Neither Rowena

or Billy feels that they have missed anything by taught at home. Like many of

the more than one million people which receive home schooling in the United States, they

feel that they have got a good education.

Passage 2:

Did you enjoy yourself yesterday? I suppose you do. But I’d like to tell you what

bad a day I had yesterday. Anything just went wrongly. In the morning, my alarm clock

didn’t ring, but I woke up an hour late. I was in such a hurry that I burning my hand when

I was cooking breakfast. Then I ran out the house to catch the 8:30 bus. This is the bus I

usually take on. But, as you can guess, I missed it of course. I was very unhappy and

scared as well because of my teacher hates students coming later to school. So I ran three

miles to school, only discover that nobody was there. I realized: It was Sunday.

Passage 3:

Mr. Zhang is over sixty years old. He has been retired. He is one of my respected

teachers. He taught ourselves chemistry when we were in senior Grade One. Although he

was old, he taught very well. He tried his best to make his classes interested. Mr. Zhang

usually made good preparations for his lessons and strict with us. Whenever we made

mistakes in our homework, he would ask us to correct it. At that time, I used to be poorly

in chemistry. Mr. Zhang often helped me of my studies very patiently. With his help, I

had made rapid progress and caught up with the classes. He was always very kind to

every student. As∧experienced teacher, he was respected and loved by all the students.

Passage 4:

If there are much more people in the world, there must have more food to feed the

people. But food shortage is already a problem in the today's world. One-third of the

world’s population is starving, because there being not enough food. Ten thousand people

die of hungry every day in some parts of the world. But in others parts of the world,

as people eat too much food, so they become unhealthy. Worse still, some rich people

have so much food that they sometimes don’t value them. How can tomorrow's world

feed its people? The world needs produce more food than it does now.

Passage 5:

Today many families have their own televisions, and a good many of people like

watching TV. Thus, TV plays important part in people’s everyday life. By watching TV,

people know many things in other places of the world. It is of great helpful in broadening

people’s horizon. Moreover, it can also to help people learn more new things and master

better ways to work out problem. So undoubtedly, TV interests in many people. However,

watch TV too long is harmful, especially to people’s eyes. Many people who are addicted

with TV programs find they have very few time for work or study. And their social lives

will greatly affected.

Passage 6:

I firmly believe that everyone in the world loves their mother. So am I. My mother is

a ordinary teacher. She always works hard, just as other mothers do every day. In fact, she

isn’t good health. She had been suffering from arthritis(关节炎)for many years. Despite

of this, she never stops working or giving up hope. I still remember the day when my

mother accepted a card of congratulations for Teacher’s Day from her director. The card

was read “Thank you for your hard works; Happy Teacher’s Day to you!” At that

moment, I was so moving that tears came to my eyes. I am proud of my mother.
