Teaching Aims:

1.Go on the new grammar: The Active Voice and the Passive Voice in the Past Tense.

2. Get the ss to master some useful expressions.

3. Encourage the Ss to train their abilities of listening , writing, and speaking.

Lesson 37.

Properties: Recorder, overhead projector; pictures and some real objects

Language focus:

Useful expressions: on show, hundreds of; invent/invention.

Teaching Procedures:

Ⅰ. Showing aims:

1. Master some useful expressions.

2. Learn the grammar: The Active Voice and the Passive Voice in the Past Tense.

Ⅱ. Revision

1.Check homework.

2.Revise The Active Voice and the Passive Voice .Get the Ss to answer the question correctly, then Ss practise “ ask and answer” in pairs, using a The Active Voice and the Passive Voice and choose several pairs to perform their dialogues. Get the Ss to make up a dialogue in pairs and then share the dialogue in class.

Ⅲ.Presentation

Tell the SS the Simple Present Tense is used because we are talking about things which people use today. Remind the SS of the old things in the museums. Ask : What was it made of? What was it used for? When were they invented?

Write the answers on the Bb. Explain that the Past Tense is asked because we are talking about sth that people do not use today, but used in the past.

See if the SS can understand it in English.

Ⅳ.Read and say:

Part 1. Speech cassette. Ask : Where did Duhui go yesterday? When were the old inventions on the show invented?

Play the tape for the class to listen and find the best answers by themselves. Check the answers with the whole class. Make sure they can answer correctly. See if the SS can make sentences with them. Play the tape again fot the Ss to repeat.

Ask the students to make up a similar dialogue, and share with the class.

Ⅴ.Practise:

Part 2. Ask the Ss to ask and answer according to the questions in the box. Have some of the SS read it out for the class.

Ⅵ. Workbook:

1. Do Exx 1 orally in pairs. Have the Ss ask and answer in pairs. Check the answers with the whole class.

2. Do Exx 2 in the exercise books. Have the ss do it by themselves, then discuss in pairs.

3. Do Ex 3. with the whole class. Then check the answers.

Ⅷ.Summary.

Lesson 38.

Properties: Recorder, overhead projector; pictures and some real objects

Language focus:

Useful expressions: a visit to…; be interested in; a group of; on display; be covered with; in the future; in the 1920’s

Teaching Procedures:

Ⅰ. Showing aims:

1. Master some useful expressions and understand some difficult sentences..

2. Read the passage, try to do some reading comprehension.

3. Do some reading comprehension.

Ⅱ. Revision:

1.Check homework.

Revise Lesson 37. Practise the dialogue of Lesson 37 in front of the class.

Revise the Passive Voice in the Past Tense.Have the Ss make sentences in groups of four, then get some groups to give out their ideas.

Ⅲ. Presentation:

Ask: Can you say something about dinosaurs in Chinese or in English? Iet the SS discuss it first. Then open the workbook, look at Ex. 1. Read through the questions first, let the SS read the passage quickly and answer the questions in the Workbook orally. After that, give them correct instructions. Ask them to find the answers in pairs.

Play the tape, get the SS to listen and read after the tape sentence by sentence.

Then ask two or three Ss to read the passage for the class.

Ⅳ. Teaching Language Focus:

Explain some useful expressions in the passage. Let the SS understand them.

Ⅴ. Teaching grammar:

T: The Passive Voice in the Past Simple Tense. Let the SS find out these sentences.

1) These eggs were laid by dinosaurs long ago.

2) It was discovered in Liaoning Province.

3) Many dinosaurs were discovered by you.

Let the Ss make sentences with: were, and was

Get the Ss ask and answer in pairs. Then share the answers with the whole class.

Ⅵ. Read:

Speech cassette. Play the tape for the Ss to listen and try to find the answers to the questions. Check the answers with the class.

Books open. Get the Ss to read the passage in pairs. Give them a few minutes for them to discuss, then ask some of the SS to give their reports to share with the class.

Ⅶ. Practice:

Have the ss make sentences with the useful expressions, See if they use them freely.

Then play the tape again for the Ss to repeat.

Ask the SS to listen carefully. Then stop the tape while the SS are listening, and ask them to go on reading. It can test the SS’ abilities to follow the passage as it is read on the tape.

Read the passage individually and help them to retell the story.

Workbook:

Do Exx 2 orally in class. Write down the answers as quickly as they can. Have the Ss read the dialogue in pairs, then check in class. And write down their own ideas in the exercise books.

The answers are: interested in; eggs, found, by, laid, by, guide, on, for, disappeared, on display, discovered, covered, like, believe, disappeared, have become.

Ⅷ. Summary.

Today we’ve learned sth about dinosaurs. They were found in 1920s, then disappeared 65 million years ago. But there was also a dinosaur on display in the museum. It looked like a bird, so many scientists believe that dinosaurs haven’t disappeared. Ask:

1) What will the world be like if dinosaurs are still living today?

2) How will people’s life be changed if dinosaurs are still living?

Get the SS to have a group discussion about the two topics.

Homework:

Finish off the exercises in the workbook..

Write a short passage about their spending Spring Festival.

Lesson 39.

Properties: Recorder, overhead projector; pictures and some real objects

Language focus:

Found, look up the world in the dictionary, business hours, No parking/Photos.

Teaching Procedures:

Ⅰ. Showing aims:

1.Master some useful expressions.

2.Go on revising the grammar: the Passive Voice in the Past Tense.

Ⅱ. Revision:

1.Check homework;

2.Revise the passage of Lesson 38. First get the Ss to ask and answer some questions about the passage, see if they can understand the passage correctly. Get one of them to retell it. Try to use the drills freely:

Have the SS to make some sentences to master the Passive Voice in the Past Tense.

3. Make up their own dialogues ,to talk about the dinosaurs.

Ask some SS to read their retelling. Then ask some of them to read the topic to the SS.

Ⅲ.Presentation:

Remind the SS of the old things in the museum. For example:

These eggs were laid by dinosaurs long ago.

Drill the sentence in tense like that. Then read through the questions in Part 1. Make sure the Ss can understand the meaning of found, PLA and PRC. Get them find the right answers. Then get them to ask and answer in pairs.

Divide the class into small groups. Have the ss make up new dialogues in groups. Ask some of them share with the whole class. Pay attention to the usage of the Infinitive.

Ⅳ.Read and learn:

Use some cards with the English signs work. Let the SS talk about them., and ask them what they mean and where else they can see the signs.

Book open. Look at the pictures. Play the tape for the SS to listen and repeat. Then talk about the signs again.

Have the SS ask and answer in pairs. Remember the meanings of the signs.

Speech cassette. Play the tape for the Ss to listen and repeat. Then in pairs, have the Ss read

Language focus:

Keep..warm, be filled with, in the old days, report to, break down, and Checkpoint 10.

Teaching Procedures:

Ⅰ. Showing aims:

1. Train the SS’ listening ability.

2.Revise all the contents of Unit 10.

3.To train their listening and writing abilities.

4.Go through Checkpoint10.

5.Write a short passage to train the SS’ writing abilities.

Ⅱ. Revision:

1.Check homework.

2.Talk about dinosaurs in the past. See if the Ss can describe it in English.

Revise the Passive Voice in the Past Simple Tense. Have the Ss make sentences using the Passive Voice in the Past Simple Tense. Get the ss to discuss in groups. Make sure the Ss can use the Passive Voice in the Past Simple Tense correctly.

Ⅲ.Listen

Listening cassette. Go through the Ex1 in WB with the Ss. Play the tape for the ss to listen and finish Ex 1 in WB . Play the tape again, Get the SS to check their answers. Then check with the whole class. Make sure that they can understand.

Ex2. in the Wb. Listening cassette. Get the ss to listen and repeat after the tape.

Ⅳ.Presentation:

Draw a picture of a thermos on the Blackboard. And then ask: What is this? What’s it made of? ( The inside is made of glass and outside is made of metal.)

What is it used for? ( It’s used to keep hot water/For keeping water hot) Telll the Ss It’s a thermos. Ask : Do you know what we are used to keep water warm in the ld days? Get the SS to look at the pictures. Ask: What are they? What were they used for? What were they made of?

Are they modern or old? Where do you think this may happen?

Get individual student to ask and answer. Encourage them to try to say out all kinds of the ways that they know.

Ⅴ. Practice:

Let the SS open the books and read the dialogue more carefully and answer the questions. Then check the answers with the SS. Play the tape for the sS to listen and repeat, then read it in pairs. Explain some language points. Ask the SS to practise this dialogue in pairs without looking at the books. They may ask: What is that? When was it used? What was it used for?

Ask the SS if they know the Four Inventions of China.

Ⅵ. Write:

Look at the pictures of the thermos. Get the SS to write a passage of the old things in the old days.

Ⅶ.Presentation:

Part 3. Get the SS to write down their answers and report to the class.

Ⅷ. Checkpoint 10.

Go through Checkpoint 10 with the Ss. Solve any problems that the Ss may have. Make sentences with the useful expressions, and make sure that the Ss can use them freely. Get the Ss to go over the grammar notes.

Ⅹ.Workbook:

1. Do Exx 3 orally in class. Do it in Ex book. Pay attention to the stress.

2. Do Exx 4 and 5 with the Ss in class. Practise the dialogue in pairs. The answers are: 1.have you had, 2. is it used for.
