Johnsy and Sue are artists who move into Greenwich Village in New York City. As Winter approaches and the weather gets colder, Johnsy becomes ill with pneumonia. She gets so sick that she believes that when the last leaf falls from the vine outside her window, she will die. An old artist, named Behrman, who lives in the same building as the girls, braves a storm one night to paint a leaf on the wall — a leaf that will never fall. Cold and wet from painting in the icy rain, he catches pneumonia and dies. This gives Johnsy the hope to survive her illness, and it also creates the masterpiece Behrman had always dreamed of painting.

It is said to have material to the poor-the painter to inspire the survival of patients with courage, passed away in the branches of ivy on one side painted leaves the scene of praise for the Protection of the personality and noble character

The Last Leaf is a short story written by O Henry, Settled in Greenwich Village. Its depicts characters and themes are typically of O Henry’s work.

Johnsy has fallen ill and is dying of pneumonia. She watches the leaves falling from the window of her room, and decides that when the last leaf drops, she will die, too. To encourage her, Mr. Behrman painted the last leaf in a stormy night but he died of pneumonia because of his efforts in the storm.

This is a sad story about sacrifice as well as a moving story about hope. Likewise, we can learn about something from this story, something that totally different from each other.

Everyone has a certain purpose that support all his life, and we call it hope. Hope means an oasis to a man walking in the desert. From Johnsy’s recovery, there’s no doubt that hope is her holy light which points out her direction.

Meanwhile, everything should be paid off, including kindness. Maybe we can consider Johnsy’s recovery as an exchange with Mr. Behrman’s sacrifice. No wonder it will be a cruel comparison, but it is an universal routine in the world. In addition, it warns us not to let ourselves have our own way without limitation.

The last leaf is symbol of the leaf of life. It is the most treasured gift from an old artist!

The story described a young couple of good friends. It"s Johnsy and Sue. After a period of happy time, Johnsy encounted the Mr. Pneumonia in a cold night in November. One day afternoon, she was desperatly looking out of the window and was counting the leaves on the ivy tree. She firmly convinced that she would leave the world after the last leaf fell. She hadn"t any passion for the furture life! Hadn"t none other better ways, Sue had to ask the help of the Mr. Behrman. And old poor artist who lived on the ground floor beneath them!

He was a failure in art. he has been always about to paint a masterpiece, but had never begun it. Af firstly, he was very scornful about this frustrated girl who was giving up her life after hearing of the last leaf story from Sue. Actually, in this old man"s feeling inside, he earnestly wanted to save this poor and young girl. He panited the last vivid and lovely leaf throughout a dreadful night. Finally, this materpiece has been completed, and Johnsy kindled the life fire again. However, Mr. Behame died of the Pneumonia.

The story ended here, but, the sincere friendship would never stop forever! It is penetrating in every sentence of this essay, and it is also hovering in the reader"s heart! Let us respect this best art-man! Meanwhile, I also associate him with my parents. They breed us and cultivate us! They have given us their best presents! We shall do all of our efferots to return the contributions to them!

Read the O. Henry "the last leaf", I was deeply touched. Came down with pneumonia Johncy girl ivy leaf on the wall outside the window as his own life. Look at pieces of falling leaves, she couldn't help but pessimism and despair, she felt that the last one fall, she also want to go to. Old painter Mr Behrman is also suffering from pneumonia in the last leaf fell down in the evening, laid it on the wall in the rain for Johncy painted the last leaf, he died.

Johncy collapse because of her illness, and even pessimistic to the life on the leaves. She thought that the last leaf fall, she is free. Treat life, optimistic and pessimistic people will make a different choice: optimists in time will be facing death to life full of hope, brave fight for their own life and death; While pessimistic person, even with a healthy body, because the bad state of mind you are blasted the vigorous life.

In the story, Mr Behrman painted the ivy leaf, not just a leaf, it is not just a picture, it is the symbol of people unremitting pursuit of hope, also reflects the Mr Behrman, kind heart. It gives Johncy living courage and hope, and to heal her pneumonia.

In this life and death struggle, Johncy because Mr Behrman that a leaf, the great spiritual power, set up the confidence, to overcome the disease and brave to fight the disease, withered life finally erupt again. In fact, everyone will encounter difficulties and setbacks, the key is to see if you have confidence, can be brave to face it, overcome it.

In life, in the face of difficulties, in the face of challenges, just keep the optimistic positive attitude, brave to challenge, even if failure, there will be no regret. Let's paint in his heart that a piece of falling leaves, not positive in the face of life.

"last leaf" this article is my "children's literature" on the see. when i finished reading the article, i who had a deep admiration for the artist's talent and the kind of self-sacrificing spirit.

what happened was this: so a good friend of jones, unfortunately, contracted pneumonia, in their residence out of the window there is a cluster of ivy, through the baptism of wind and rain, and its leaves have disappeared into obscurity. jones think when the last one leaves off the ivy-ray later, her life, coming to an end. so this can not be racking their brains to dispel the idea of her, only to the downstairs, mr. berman for help. berman is a painter, he knew that after a wet and windy night, in the ivy leaves off the light, when girls think that their certain death, when the old painter to allow girls to rekindle the fire of hope, he braved the wind and rain to leaves painted on the wall, for which he contracted pneumonia and died.

“Hills Like White Elephants”, one of Hemingway’s terrific works, is a story that happens at a train station in the Ebro River valley of Spain. An American and his girlfriend are drinking beers and having a conversation when they are waiting for the train. In the dialogue, the young man’s attempt of convincing the girl Jig to take an operation has caused a lot of arguments. Though they are not explicit about what this operation really is, I consider this operation an abortion.

The conversation between them suggests that they are talking about an abortion. In the text, the man says it is an awfully simple operation and “it is just to let the air in” (Hemingway, 373). “To let the air in” is a process of vacuum aspiration in America in the 1920s, which is commonly used as a method of induced abortion. What is more, in their argument, Jig says, “Once they take it away, you never get it back”(Hemingway, 374). The man also makes it clear that he does not want anyone else but her. And this statement indicates a third person is involved. What could be the thing taken away in an operation that you may still want it back? Who could come to get in their life if the girl does not take the operation? All we can come up with is a baby. The man does not want a baby before they settle down, before he is ready to take the responsibility of raising a family. And Jig is still struggling about whether to take this operation or not in their debates. So this is an operation to take the unexpected baby away---abortion.

Sceneries between the two lines of the rails are also indications of their two different choices in pregnancy. On one side, there is no shade and no trees but only barren land stretching toward the hills. On the other side, the land is covered with green, fertile fields and river. Barren is used to describe a woman who is unable to produce children while fertile represents female’s capability of producing babies. If Jig agrees to take the operation, then the baby will no longer exist and thus making her barren. But if she chooses not to, then she will be consider as a fertile woman who is able to produce babies. That is to say the two totally opposite views symbolize their dilemma of the pregnancy --- infertile or fecund, undergo the abortion or not.

The title of this story itself is a metaphor implying this is an abortion. White elephant denotes something that is completely burdensome, although it may be precious enough. And here in this text, the white elephant is the symbol of a baby—valuable but troublesome. There is no doubt that the baby is a treasure. But the fact is that they are a young couple traveling around the world without a place to settle down. They have neither enough time nor energy to take care of a baby. Even if they don’t have to worry about those material conditions, they are not psychologically ready yet. Problems like “requirements of being qualified parents” has never occurred in their minds. Based on both physical and psychology circumstances of the young couple, we can see that the baby is precious but also a burden. Hence the white elephant here is an intimation of an abortion.

The phrase “to let the air in” makes it quite clear that this is an abortion. And during their debates, we can get to know someone is involved in this young couple and the American is trying to get away from this third person by requesting Jig to take the operation. Furthermore, the two different landscapes on the two sides of the rails is also foreshadowing us the outcome of Jig’s choice. Take it, she is barren. Reject, fertile. And the white elephant becomes emblematic of a baby that could be a sweet burden in their life. This symbol strengthen the operation that has been talked about in the whole story is an abortion. With all these factors integrated together, we can conclude this is an abortion.

" 'Gone with the Wind' is absolutely a good book that is worth sampling repeatedly, the characters are graceful , the plot rises and falls, exciting boldly and unconstrainedly, though the subjective factor because of the author among them , the appraisal on U.S.A.'s Civil War is not objective and overall, but asto angle of literature, this one fine piece of writing generation definitely absolutely, worth visiting.

This story’s name is “The little prince”. As it known to all, we will encounter a lot of difficulties, even hardships. Different people may have different ways to deal with them. After reading The Little Princess, I am deeply impressed by Sara’s way to deal with difficulties. The Little Princess was written by Frances Hodgson Burnett, a famous novelist and dramatist. Sara, the heroine of the novel, was born in a rich family. In order to get a better education, her father took her from India to London so that she could go to the best school. Because Sara was kind-hearted, generous and most of all—rich, she was loved by everyone. All went well until her father died in an accident. Everything changed pletely. She didn’t understand why the teachers and classmates treated her so badly. Even the principal who used to be fond of her, made her work 16 hours a day. Sara’s miserable life began. When I finished reading the book, I was shocked by what the unimaginable pain Sara had suffered

after her father’s death. She used to be a happy, worriless, and rich Princess, but now she was a lonely and poor servant. She had to work very hard without any rest but only had little food. Besides she had to endure the unfriendly and even rude ways that her classmates treated her. All teachers and students in the school looked down upon her. The most important fact is that Sara had lost the love and care of her parents. What a mighty pain! If you were Sara, could you stand such pain? Needless to say, an 11 years old girl, even if it were an adult, he might not put up with it. But to my surprise, Sara faced it bravely.

Despite of the torture of the principal and all those pressures above, she still was optimistic towards life. By reading this novel, I felt inspired and think much. When we meet such difficulties, what should we do? Some people always plain that the fate is unfair to them. Some people can’t sustain the hardships and choose to give up. Few of them even try to mit suicide because they lack the courage to overe it. Compared with Sara—an eleven years old girl who can treat the pressure of life with optimistic spirit, these people’s performances are sounded so lamentable. Why can’t they make it?However, what impress me most are her characteristics and the thought of her “being a real princess.” This “real princess” does not mean luxury palaces, beautiful clothes and the apple of the others’ eyes, but being kind, generous and having good manners. It is unnecessary for “a real princess” to be strong in body, but she must be strong in will. Sara is a real princess in my heart all the time, whethe

r she was rich and wore beautiful clothes in the classroom or she was cold and hungry in the attic, just because she had the good characters and kind heart. The story went on. Fortunately, a friend of Sara’s father found her and told her that her father left a great sum of money to her. I pray and believe that every good person in the world deserve a good result, and of course, we are the same.

I have never been to Troy, but David Maule made me feel as if I were standing on the high wall of Troy, watching the fierce war. Thanks to this British author, who adapted the famous Homer’s poem into a lively story, I found it easier to understand this story.

Though the story happened over 3000 years ago in a remote place, I was deeply fascinated by it. The mysterious plot is one of the reasons why I loved The Story of Troy so much, yet I am more interested in the human heroes of the war.

Hector was the eldest son of king of Troy, Priam. He was not only a real hero of Trojan, but was regarded the highest moral hero in Greek classic by later historians.

The war started because of the mischief of his brother, Paris, whom he didn’t appreciate. However, since Hector was the mander of the Trojan army, he was obliged to fight with all force. It was really a tragedy that such a valiant man died in the duel with another great warrior, Achilles.

It is natural to see death in a war. As a famous Chinese parable says, “A life can be as slight as a piece of feather, or as weighty as Mount Tai.” Sometimes, one’s glory walks hand in hand with one’s doom. Achilles was such a typical person. His personal charm made The Story of Troy more attractive.

He was so crucial because his every appearance in a war encouraged his fellow soldiers and terrified the enemies. Actually, Achilles was half-god who was almost invincible in people’s mind. That’s why his name was memorized long after his death.

Besides the two great men, the wisdom of Odysseus also proved him to be a great hero. He didn’t want to attend the war because he was happily married and had a lovely son. However, since his country was allied to Mycenae, he had to take the mand given by the king of Mycenae.

I’m quite sure that the story of the wooden horse is widely known, however, few people know who thought of the brilliant idea, that’s why I admired Odysseus so much because he was the person who got the idea. Thanks to the horse, the ten-year war came to an end at last. If you want to know how the wooden horse worked, just read the book.

The ancient Greeks believed that the gods and goddesses also played important roles in the origin, process and ending of the whole story.

The story of the golden apple was such an example.

When Eris, the goddess of argument and disagreement, threw out the golden apple to a wedding ceremony on Mount Olympus, a dispute happened. Hera, the queen of gods, Athena, the goddess of wisdom, and Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, were all involved in the argument for the apple.

None of them was willing to give way, so they turned to Paris for a final judgment. Tempted by Aphrodite’s beauty and promise, Paris handed the apple to her. To keep her word, Aphrodite helped him to get Helen, the most beautiful woman in the world, as his wife. That was the cause of the war.

Paris’s choice obviously annoyed the other two goddesses. So during the war, they helped the Greek alliance army while some other gods, such as Apollo and Aphrodite, guarded Troy.

When Paris dueled with Helen’s former husband Menelaus, Aphrodite saved Paris when he was about to be finished off.

After the duel between those two people, there was a truce between the Greek alliance and Troy. However, both Hera and Athena were not happy to see it.

Hera pursued her husband ZEUS:“ Now, will you send Athena to make the Troyjans break the peace?”(Page 22) Then with Zeus’s permission, Athena went down to start the war again and finally she brought the Greeks to success.

From the whole story, we can see that in ancient Greeks’ view, gods sometimes played a much more important role in their life. However, with the rapid development of science, we have learned that the Greek gods never existed. This is why a recent movie of Troy has not mentioned a single god.

Everything happened due to men’s ambition, love, loyalty or jealousy. With those emotion and people’s effort, we human beings can acplish wonders and be master of the world.

God are of less importance than they used to be. Nonetheless, the gods and goddesses made The Story of Troy more mysterious and marvelous.

I have learnt from the book more than the wonderful story of history, love and war. I believe that human can determine their destiny by their own. I highly remend this book to my friends with the same interest.

These seems easy to get,but they are the most valuable things in the world.

Jane Eyre, is a poor but aspiring, small in body but huge in soul, obscure but self-respecting girl.

After we close the covers of the book, after having a long journey of the spirit, Jane Eyre, a marvelous figure, has left us so much to recall and to think: We remember her goodness: for someone who lost arms and blinded in eyes, for someone who despised her for her ordinariness, and even for someone who had hurt her deeply in the past. We remember her pursuit of justice. It's like a companion with the goodness.

But still, a virtuous person should promote the goodness on one side and must check the badness on the other side. We remember her self-respect and the clear situation on equality.

In her opinion, everyone is the same at the God's feet. Though there are differences in status、in property and also in appearance, but all the human being are equal in personality. We also remember her striving for life, her toughness and her confidence… When we think of this girl, what she gave us was not a pretty face or a transcendent temperament that make us admire deeply, but a huge charm of her personality.

Actually, she wasn't pretty, and of course, the ordinary appearance didn't make others feel good of her, even her own aunt felt disgusted with it. And some others even thought that she was easy to look down on and to tease, so when Miss Ingram met Jane Eyre, she seemed quite contemptuous, for that she was obviously much more prettier than 'the plain and ugly governess'. But as the little governess had said: 'Do you think, because I am poor, obscure, plain, and little, I am soulless and heartless?

You think wrong!' This is the idea of equality in Jane Eyre's mind. God hadn't given her beauty and weh, but instead, God gave her a kind mind and a thinking brain. Her idea of equality and self-respect impress us so much and let us feel the power inside her body.

In my mind, though a person's beauty on the face can make others once feel that one is attractive and charming, if his or her mind isn't the same beautiful as the appearance, such as beauty cannot last for, when others find that the beauty which had charmed them was only a falsity, it's not true, they will like the person no more.

For a long time, only a person's GREat virtue, a noble soul, a beautiful heart can be called as AN EVERLASTING BEAUTY, just as Kahill Gibran has said, that 'Beauty is a heart enflamed and a soul enchanted'.

I can feel that how beauty really is, as we are all fleshly men, so we can't distinguish whether a man is of nobleness or humbleness, but fleshly men, so we can't distinguish whether a man is of nobleness or humbleness, but as there are great differences in our souls, and from that, we can know that whether a man is noble or ordinary, and even obscure, that is, whether he is beautiful or not. Her story makes us thinking about life and we learn much from her experience, at least, that is a fresh new recognition of the real beauty.

Jane Eyre gives me much useful inspiration after reading it.

I respect Jane Eyre's independence and I am most impressed by the true love between jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester who was a poor blind man, twenty years older than her. Jane Eyre never felt herself inferior as a tutor before Mr. Rochester and gained an equal status. She had lofty sentiments and was pure in mind.

She had not been contaminated by common customs, so Mr.Rochester was attracted by her independent personality and falling love with her. In the story, Jane Eyre dismissed the chaise and driver with the double remuneration, which reflected her determination to come back to Mr. Rochester. She did not know whether Mr. Rochester was really there, but she still groped about in the twilight and came to the desolate house.

She missed him that much. She only hoped that Mr Rochester let her live with him even if she found Mr Rochester blind and mutilated. Mr rochester became extremely excited when he heard and felt his beloved Jane was still living.

He suggested that Jane marry one of the other young men because he thought himself as a sightless block. But he also showed his jealousy when Jane talked about St. John's proposing marriage. All in all, Mr. Rochester was always loving Jane deeply. Mr. Rochester once exclaimedJane,Jane!Janeand Jane heared Rochester's voice calling to her. Her voice replied,I am coming. Wait for me I think these are the call of love and the answer of love.

Later on, after their marriage, Mr.Rochester miraculously regained his sight and lived happily with Jane. Personally, love can fasten the hearts of lovers tightly. Love is beyond time and space and the miracle of love can lead prayers to become reality.

Recently, I have reading the book "Jane Eyre". Although I forgot some details in the book, Jane gave me deeply impression, I admire her very much.

After that the teacher also told us to put the play in to a movie, and then we all can touch each hero's soul in the book. The play it mainly tell us how Jane is growing up when suffering from great difficulties and painless. what's more, it is impressed me that she still love her master even if he is blind at last due to rescue his mad wife. And I like the Classic lines what Jane said to Mr. Rochester:"Do you think I can stay to become nothing to you?

Do you think I am an automaton?--a machine without feelings? and can bear to have my morsel of bread snatched from my lips, and my drop of living water dashed from my cup? Do you think, because I am poor, obscure, plain, and little, I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong!--I have as much soul as you,--and full as much heart! And if God had gifted me with some beauty and much weh, I should have made it as hard for you to leave me, as it is now for me to leave you.

The Olympic Games, which originated in ancient Greece, is the most distinguished sporting event in the world. Once every four years, the utmost athletes from all around are lured to gather together and spare no efforts to compete against each other and try to win a medal for the country that they represent. Frankly speaking, that was virtually all I knew about the world-famous Olympic Games before I had read a book entitled The Olympics published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research press. However, I found even more philosophy beyond just winning medals from reading the book, which was beyond my imagination and considerably inspiring.

Someone once said, “Were everybody on earth involved in some kind of sport, our world would be free of war for long.” Starting from three thousand years ago, the ancient Olympic Games has long been an event not only for competition but also for peace. In ancient times, no war was allowed between the cities during the Games, which was rather surprising to me since I could hardly imagine warriors actally putting down their weapons and give a break for peace. The precious tradition of peace continued: I would never fail to recall the scene of the opening ceremonies when North and South Korean athletes entering the stadium with their hands held together. The two neighboring countries that used to be enemies are no longer enemies during the Games. Instead they became friends. Speaking of the 2004 Athens Olympics, perhaps most people would have the same opinion that the most noable part of the opening ceremony arrived when Iraqi and Afghan representatives showed up. These two unfortunate nations, the people of which have undergone innumerable wars, are coming back again to take their own responsibility in world sports after recent invasions by America. The fearless people of Iraq and Afghanistan are once more sharing the spirit of the Games with people from the rest of the world.

There is another story in this book that makes me deep in thoughts. There is no doubt that the most unusual Olympic Games ever in history is the 1936 Olympics held in Germany, which was then ruled by the Nazi party. Led by Adolf Hitler, the Nazi believed that the so-called Aryan people were superior to all others in all aspects. They looked down upon Jews and blacks, the latter of which was a major constitution of the United States Olympic team. Despite the barrier that faced him, the African American Jesse Owens, who was a most outstanding runner and jumper, did all that he could and finally won gold medals for his country and went home a hero. This reveals another fact that no power on earth is able to hinder the sacred Olympic Games. For all participants, no matter what their gender, race, nationalities and backgrounds are, equality is distributed among every one who observes the Game’s rules.

At the 2004 Athens Olympics, our Chinese team did extraordinarily well. We ranked second on the medal lists for the first time in history. In my opinion, however, we should not only concentrate on the figure of medals; instead the strength and perseverance of those who failed to get any medals ought to be highly cherished. Whether ever success or failure, whether ever cheer or tear, whether ever medal or not, the never-gave-up spirits of athletes are always motivating us. I believe in the year 2008, the world will focus all their attention to Beijing, China, where the glory of the Games will continue to thrive forever!

The book I read this week entittled the Red and the Black, which is undoubtedly among the best liturature works. As a person who haven’t had much knowledge in literature, any comments on this work seem to be rather naive and even sort of reckless. But this is the only book I have access to recently. With much deliberation, I would like to write down following words.

The book mainly tells a story about a man named Julien, who came from a carpenter’s family and got a shrewd father and two elder brothers characterized by huge size and rudeness. Though he wasn’t quite athletic, he got talent with his memory. He could recite the whole contents of the Bible, which made him admired by people around him and win him a job as a family teacher. And this is the part where our story begins. Under his gorgeous face, there exists a relentless lust for fortune, power and status, all of which derive from his persuit of happiness, dignity and freedom and finally contributed to his downfall. He worshiped Nepolen the most, and he is willing to die a thousand times to win his success. He desires for love, yet sometimes he used it as a tool to obtain his status and power. However, he had never given up showing his sympathy for the poor and contempt to the Noble. His pureness blended together with ambition and felt self-abased and conceited at the same time. As a young man, he ignored what’s really important for him—being loved. And he just realized this until death was around the corner. The story is a tragedy, for he hasn’t got what he wanted in the end and he sacrificed too much for his contemporary fame and fortune. At the last few hours of his life, those happy times he spent with his loved ones gave him courage to face death penalty with calm . when he realized that he didn’t have to tolerate the world filled with fakeness or put a mask on his face, he died with ease.

Julien stands for the group of people coming from the low class in the society and hope to achieve success with their own efforts. These people usually don’t have the necessary conditions to become successful, but they will by no means stop trying or let God tells them what their lives should be like, instead, they are willing to sacrifice anything to realize their dreams and earn their dignity. For these people, no matter what the consequences their struggle may be, I should forever pay my tribute to them. To some extent, they are the makers of the world.

It seems to me that many readers’ English reading experience starts with Jane Eyer. I am of no exception. As we refer to the movie “Jane Eyer”, it is not surprising to find some differences because of its being filmized and retold in a new way, but the spirit of the novel remains----to be an independent person, both physically and mentally.

Jane Eyer was a born resister, whose parents went off when she was very young, and her aunt, the only relative she had, treated her as badly as a ragtag. Since Jane’s education in Lowwood Orphanage began, she didn’t get what she had been expecting——simply being regarded as a common person, just the same as any other girl around. The suffers from being humiliated and devastated teach Jane to be persevering and prize dignity over anything else.As a reward of revolting the ruthless oppression, Jane got a chance to be a tutor in Thornfield Garden. There she made the acquaintance of lovely Adele and that garden’s owner, Rochester, a man with warm heart despite a cold face outside. Jane expected to change the life from then on, but fate had decided otherwise: After Jane and Rochester fell in love with each other and got down to get marry, she unfortunately came to know in fact Rochester had got a legal wife, who seemed to be the shadow following Rochester and led to his moodiness all the time ----Rochester was also a despairing person in need of salvation. Jane did want to give him a hand, however, she made up her mind to leave, because she didn’t want to betray her own principles, because she was Jane Eyer. The film has finally got a symbolist end: Jane inherited a large number of legacies and finally returned. After finding Rochester’s misfortune brought by his original mad wife, Jane chose to stay with him forever.

I don’t know what others feel, but frankly speaking, I would rather regard the section that Jane began her teaching job in Thornfield as the film’s end----especially when I heard Jane’s words “Never in my life have I been awaken so happily.” For one thing, this ideal and brand-new beginning of life was what Jane had been imagining for long as a suffering person; for another, this should be what the audiences with my views hoped her to get. But the professional judgment of producing films reminded me to wait for a totally different result: There must be something wrong coming with the excellence----perhaps not only should another section be added to enrich the story, but also we may see from the next transition of Jane’s life that “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you would get.” (By Forrest Gump’s mother, in the film “Forrest Gump”)

Oliver Twist one of the most famous works of Charles Dickens’ is a novel reflecting the tragic fact of the life in Britain in 18th century.

The author who himself was born in a poor family wrote this novel in his twenties with a view to reveal the ugly masks of those cruel criminals and to expose the horror and violence hidden underneath the narrow and dirty streets in London.

The hero of this novel was Oliver Twist an orphan who was thrown into a world full of poverty and crime. He suffered enormous pain such as hunger thirst beating and abuse. While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver I was shocked by his sufferings. I felt for the poor boy but at the same time I detested the evil Fagin and the brutal Bill. To my relief as was written in all the best stories the goodneeventually conquered devil and Oliver lived a happy life in the end. One of the plots that attracted me most is that after the theft little Oliver was allowed to recover in the kind care of Mrs. Maylie and Rose and began a new life. He went for walks with them or Rose read to him and he worked hard at his lessons. He felt as if he had left behind forever the world of crime and hardship and poverty.

How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reason is the nature of goodness. I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed that goodnecould conquer every difficulty. Although I don’t think goodneis omnipotent yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded.

For me the nature of goodneis one of the most necessary character for a person. Goodneis to humans what water is to fish. He who is without goodneis an utterly worthleperson. On the contrary as the famous saying goes ‘The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose’ he who is with goodneundoubtedly is a happy and useful person. People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself.
