Teaching Aims:

1. Go on teaching the grammar: The Present Perfect Tense.( It is used with “ for’ and “ since”

2. Get the ss to master some useful expressions.

3. Get the Ss to know that beautiful environment is good for our health, our work and our lives.

4. Through reading some passages in this Unit to improve the Ss’ reading comprehension.

Difficulties and points:

1. The use of for and since.

2. The protection of the environment.

Lesson 9.

Properties: Recorder, overhead projector; pictures and some real objects

Language focus:

Useful expressions: : waste water; Greener China; Good idea; be afraid of; a member of ; a book on the environment.

How long have you beena member of Greener China?

I’ve been with Greener China for a year.

How many English words have you learned since you came here?

About two thousand.

Teaching Procedures:

Ⅰ. Showing aims:

1. Master some useful expressions.

2. Learn the Present Perfect Tense.

3. To make some dialogues freely.

4. To know tha they should protect the environment and make our world more beautiful.

Ⅱ. Revision

Revise The Present Perfect Tense.. Ask the Ss some questions like: Have you ever been to the Great Wall? How many times have you been there? Get the Ss to answer the questions correctly, then Ss practise “ ask and answer” in pairs, using The Present Perfect Tense, and choose several pairs to perform their dialogues.

Ⅲ.Presentation

Present this dialogue:

A:Where have you been?

B: I’ve been to a paper factory.

A: What did you do there?

B: I saw the workers making paper there.

Present the dialogue with one student as an example, then ask the Ss to practise the dialogue in pairs, and get some of them to act it out.

Ⅳ. Practise:

Get the Ss to talk about the paper factory. Give them an example: This is a paper factory. It makes paper, but it also makes waste water and smoke. I found the smoke was put into the air and the waste water was put into the river near it. The river has become very dirty. Lots of fish have dies. Have the Ss talk in groups of four and then ask some of them to read out their reports to share with the class.

Ⅴ.Read and say:

Part 1. Speech cassette. Play the tape for the ss to listen and repeat. Ask the ss to read the dialogue in pairs. Then read the dialogue individually again and find the answers to the questions:

1.Where has Hu Lan just been to?

2.Why has the river near the factory become dirty?

3. What has happened to the fish in the river?

4. What does Greener China want to do?

5. Why are they going to write to the TV station and the newspaper?

6. Do you take care of the environment?

7. What can you do to improve the environment?

Read through the dialogue with the SS. Ask and answer in pairs. Then make similar dialogues in pairs, using the phrases in the box of the book..

Ⅵ. Write

Get the Ss to act as a journalist, and make an interview. Interview one of their friends. Ask him or her some questions about his or her family members.

What subject have you studied?

How many friends have you made?

What’s your father’s job?

How long has he been a…?

Then get the Ss to write a report, and have some Ss read their reports to share with the whole class.

Ⅶ. Workbook:

1. Do Exx 23orally. Get the Ss to do it in pairs. Have the Ss ask and answer in pairs.

2. Do Exx 2 in the ir exercise books.

Ⅷ.Summary.

Homework:

1. Finish the exercises in the workbook..

2. Write a short passage about the environment in Beijing.

Lesson 10

Properties: Recorder, overhead projector; pictures and some real objects

Language focus:

Useful expressions: harm the environment; improve our environment; make our world more beautiful; a piece of beautiful music; come to my ears; pick up; collect rubbish; produce; as soon as; keep our city clean; wherever ;It’s a pleasant way to…; It’s one’s duty to do sth.

Teaching Procedures:

Ⅰ. Showing aims:

1. Master some useful expressions.

2. Read the passage, try to do some reading comprehension.

3. To think about how to protect the environment.

Ⅱ. Revision:

1.Check homework.

2.Revise the dialogue Part 2 from L9. Get some SS to act it out in front of the class.

Ⅲ. Pre-read

Part 1. In small groups, get the Ss to discuss the questions.

Get the Ss ask and answer in pairs.

Ⅳ.Presentation

Show some pictures of the environment, and have the Ss look at the pictures. Then ask: What environment is beautiful? What environment is polluted?

Get the ss to talk about the pictures and speak out their own ideas. Teach some new words: rubbish; spit;… Have the ss guess the meaning by guesture and pictures. Ask questions like:

1. Have yo done anything to harm the environment?

2. What have you done?

3. Have you ever done anything to improve the environment?

4. What have you done?

Have the ss discuss the questions in small groups, and get the whole class to share their answers. Read through the text and find the answers to the questions of Ex 1. in WB.

Ⅴ.Read.

Part 2. Speech cassette. Books closed. Play the tape for the Ss to listen and find the answers to the questions, check the answers with the whole class. Help the Ss understand the passage easily. Then play the tape again for the Ss to repeat.

Read the passage individually and find the answers to following questions:

Discuss the questions in pairs. Then ask and answer.

Note some useful expressions:

a piece of beautiful music; come to my ears; pick up; collect rubbish; produce; as soon as; keep our city clean; wherever ;It’s a pleasant way to…; It’s one’s duty to do sth.

Ⅱ. Revision:

Check homework;

Revise the passage of Lesson 10. Ask: What have you done to the environment?

What have you done?

Have you ever done anything to improve the environment?

What have you done?

Have several Ss say out their own ideas.

Ⅲ.Presentation1:

Present this dialogue:

A: Have you been a teacher?

B: Yes, I have.

A: How long have you been a teacher?

B: Two years.

First get the Ss to practise in pairs, then make similar dialogues.

Explain the difference between “ such” and “ so”.

Ⅳ. .Presentation2:

Part 1. Speech cassette. Play the tape for the Ss to listen and repeat. Then in pairs, have the Ss read and act the dialogue, ask several pair to perform the dialogue for the class. Ask: Where has Lin Feng gone? Why has he gone to do it again?

See if the ss can answer correctly

Book open. Play the tape again, and get the Ss to repeat after the tape. Have the Ss read the drills.

Ⅴ.Practice :

Have the Ss practise the dialogue in pairs, then ask some SS to act them out in class.

Ⅵ. Read and answer:

Have the Ss ask and answer in pairs,using the words in box to help them.

Ⅶ.Guessing games:

Get the Ss to guess the riddles. If time permits, do it in class.

Ⅷ. Workbook:

1.Do Exx 1 orally with the whole class. First have the ss to do it individually, then check the answers in class.

2.Do Exx 2 as homework., then write down the sentences.

Lesson 12.

Properties: Recorder, overhead projector; pictures and some real objects

Language focus:

Useful expressions:

Do well in; keep your classroom clean and tidy; collect waste paper for recycling; pick flowers; step on the grass; cut down trees.

Teaching Procedures:

Ⅰ. Showing aims:

1.Master some useful expressions.

2.Revise all the contents of Unit 3.

3.To train their listening and writing abilities.

4.Go through Checkpoint3.

Ⅱ. Revision:

1.Check homework.

2.Revise the useful expressions, give out some useful expressions, have the Ss make sentences with the useful expressions: How long have you been a…?

Make sure the Ss can ask and answer correctly.

3. Revise the Present Perfect Tense, have the Ss make dialogues in pairs.

Ⅲ.Listen

Listening cassette. Go through the Ex1 in WB with the Ss. Play the tape for the ss to listen and finish Ex 1 in WB . Play the tape again, Get the SS to check their answers. Then check with the whole class.

Ⅳ.Practice:

Get a student to come to the front and ask the other Ss to ask him questions. They can ask him as many as possible. The questions may about the environment. According to the answer, see if the student is doing well in protecting the environment, if he is doing OK in protecting the environment, or if he needs to do better in protecting the environment.

Ⅴ. Write:

According to Ⅳ.Practice, get the Ss to write a short passage about the student. Begin with: …is a good boy in out class. He always keep our classroom clean and tidy…. Then ask two or three Ss to read their reports to share with the class.

Ⅵ. Read and match:

Have the students read through the four pictures and then read through the four passages on the left, have the students match them individually, check with the whole class. The answers are: b;a;d;c.

Ⅶ. Checkpoint 3.

Go through Checkpoint 3 with the Ss. Solve any problems that the Ss may have. Make sentences with the useful expressions, and make sure that the Ss can use them freely. Get the Ss to go over the grammar notes.

Ⅷ. Workbook:

1. Do Exx 2 orally in class. Do it in Ex book. Pay attention to the stress.

2. Do Exx 3 with the Ss in class. Practise the dialogue in pairs

3. Do Ex 4 as homework.

4. Do Ex 5.Write something about the environment pollution.

Ⅸ.Summary.

Homework:

Finish off the exercises in the workbook..

Unit 3 Paper analysis

1. the present perfect tense:

Most the Ss make mistakes in this tense:

We use the present perfect tense with these words: since, for , already, yet, still, how long, these days, these years, ever, never;

2. the indirect speech:

today--- that day; yesterday--- the day before; tomorrow--- the next day or the following day; this-that; these-those; now – then; I-you, he, she;

will-would; do, does-did; has--- had; can-could; may--- might; did--- had done;

3. Some of the SS make some spelling mistakes.

4. 50% of the SS have reading problems; Get them to practise some more reading materials.

5. 78% of the SS have listening problems. Help them master the drills of listening tests. Check the SS listen to the tape for 30 minutes a day.

6. Writing: Have the SS to write two compositions a week. Ask them to correct the mistakes as soon as possible.
