Step 1 Revision

1 Revise How much is that pen? How much are those books? That's expensive/cheap! etc.

2 Revise How many + countables, How much + uncountables. Note How much are the apples? = How much (money) are the apples?, but the word money is not used.

3 Have a student acting as a shopkeeper. Get students to ask How much is the …? Oh, that's expensive / cheap!

4 Get students to “buy” their own items, ending the dialogue with OK Here's (one yuan). And thank you. Here's your (pen).

Step 2 Game

Play the Memory Selling Game in Lesson 113, Step 3 of the TB. See if the students can think of items in alphabetical order, e.g. apples for A, bananas for B, etc.

Play the tape again; students listen and repeat. Discuss any problems. Get some students to read the passage aloud. Do Wb Lesson 115, Ex. 2. Get the students to answer Right or Wrong in pairs. Check the answers in class.

Step 4 Practice

SB Page 63, Part 2. In pairs have the students make up dialogues using the dialogue as a model. They should substitute the items in the box into the dialogue. Have several pairs volunteer to read their dialogue for the class.

Step 5 Listen and answer

SB Page 63, Part 3, Listening Cassette Lesson 115. Get the students to read the questions in Wb Lesson 115 Ex. 1 before you play the tape.
