Teaching aims: 1.Learn and master the following words and phrases:

Step 1 Revision

1. Ask some Ss to act out their speaking dialogues.

2. Ask the students to put the following into English.

(1) 火车声淹没了她的声音。

(2) 我不能阻止你离开。

(3) 纸很容易着火。

(4) 确保电线是安全的而且孩子们也碰不到。

Answers: (1) The noise of the train drowned her voice.

(2) I can’t prevent you leaving.

(3) Paper catches fire easily.

(4) Make sure that electric wires are safe and that children can’t touch them.

Step 2 Reading

2. Fast-reading : Read the text as fast as possible and try to find out which outline is used in the passage.

3. Careful-reading

(1) Reading for detail and tell the main points of each paragraph.

Parag1: The importance of giving first aid.

Parag2: The importance of staying calm

Parag3: The meaning of DR

Parag4: The meaning of ABC

Parag5: What to do after checking the DR ABC

Parag6: What we should do after giving first aid

(2) Found out the answer to the following questions:

a. Why is first aid important in our daily life?

b. What’s the most important thing to remember when dealing with an emergence?

c. What do the hospitals recommend?

d. What do the letters “DR ABC” stand for?

e. What we should do when we have checked the DR ABC?

f. Can we do first aid correctly after reading this passage?

(3) Retell the text using about 100 words.

Listen to the tape and underline the sentences with the Subjunctive Mood.

1. upside down= with the top part underneath 颠倒着,倒置地

eg. A lot of car were turned upside down during the hurricane.

2. withess= to be present or to see with one’s own eyes vt.目睹,目击 n. 目击者,证人

eg. Did anyone witness the robbery?

3. count= to have a specified importance or value vt. 有价值,重要;数,算在内

4. keep in mind: remember 记住,谨记

eg. Be careful when you drive. Keep in mind that every small mistake could lead to a traffic accident.

5. stay calm 保持镇定 stay为系动词, calm为形容词 类似用法:

eg. He stay single all his life.

6. recommend 建议;推荐

eg. I recommend that you (should) resign.

She was strongly recommended for the post.

7. first of all = ranking above all others 首先

eg. First of all tell us your name.

First of all, he wrote out a long list of all the food which is forbbiden.

8. on the way 即将到来

eg. The food you ordered is on the way.

We are in January now. The Spring Festival is on the way.

9. circulation n. 循环;(货币,消息等的)流通,传播;(报刊等的)发行

eg. He has a bad circulation.

This book is no longer in circulation.

10. make things/matters worse使事情更糟 to make things worse = worse still更糟的是(插入语)

eg. I realized that anything I could say would only make things worse.

He may be late. To make things worse (Worse still), he may not come at all.

11. roll over 翻身,打滚

eg. The goat rolled over and died.

Every time he rolled over,he pulled over more of the bedclothes to his side.
