The Olympic Games
Module 2, Unit 2, Period 1

本单元的话题是讲有关奥运会的知识及体育运动。第一课时首先是要引入本单元话题并进行阅读课的教学。在阅读课型的第一课时中首先训练学生从整体上把握文章大意及查找细节的能力。第二课时处理语言点及深层次理解文章。在口语训练中要求学生参与性强，达到交际的目的。在课堂设计上贯彻趣味性原则。用“目标语”授课。
一、 教学目标与要求：
让学生认识和学习世界上最重要的一个体育盛会--奥运会。使学生达到能用英语就奥运会的基本知识进行互相问答，并能简述奥运会的基本知识。

１、就奥运会话题进行小组互动、商讨

六、教学过程 (Teaching Procedures)：
在学习新课之前已布置学生完成本单元话题任务：
选择一：假设自己接到一个任务当２００８年奥运会的策划者，要求设计这场奥运会。内容包括确定运动项目、会歌、会旗、等与奥运会有关的内容。要求学生用英文以课件或手抄报的方式在课上展示自己的设计成果。
选择二：模仿开心词典的形式，用英语设计一些关于奥运会的问题考你的同学。
组织形式：分小组完成。（培养学生自主获取信息，学习新知识的能力及合作精神）
Ｉ 热身 (warming-up) 8’
1、放一首雅典奥运会的会歌及一个比赛录像，再以提问的方式问学生刚刚展示的是什么内容？导入本单元话题：奥运会。
向学生提问：a. Do you like sports? And do you like watching the Olympic Games?
b. Which event do you like best?
c. How many things do you know about the Olympic Games?
2、出示一个小测试。考考学生对奥运知识知多少？以问卷调查的方式让学生用英语互相询问有关奥运的知识并把得分记下。（回答的结果对错无所谓，只是作为一个对奥运知识了解程度的调查）

II 话题讨论 (Discussion) 15’
1、组织学生小组之间用英文互相介绍自己的设计方案，并在课堂上展示他们的设计成果。老师对同学的作品给予肯定（以赏识为目的）。
2、根据学生了解奥运的情况补充一些与本话题有关的知识。
例如： 图文并茂小结所有奥运会比赛项目的英文名称（指导学生按类别归纳整理词汇，让学生学会有效的记忆英语词汇的方法）。
小结其它表达。例如：吉祥物（mascot）、火炬（torch）等。
方法： 可以引入一个有关奥运会的英文小测试。即可以考查学生对奥运会的认识又可从中学习一些奥运知识。比如：

2 What’s the symbol of olive tree?
3 The first-best athlete in each event receives an object coated with this metal. What is the metal called?
(Keys: 1 The five rings represent the five continents of: Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceans.

操作： 第一题可以引导学生猜出答案“５”，之后不失时机地引入“五环”’ ‘five rings’的英文表达并介绍它代表的含义是五大洲。在展示橄榄枝时，向学生介绍其象征。展示一个领奖台的画面，引出问题三。
和学生共同讨论以上等几个问题使在学习了有关本话题的词汇的同时又增加了奥运知识。
III 阅读前的准备 (Pre-reading) 5’
问题讨论：(组织学生小组讨论，教师给予指导)

2 When and where will the next Olympic Games be held? What do you think the Chinese team will do in order to win more medals?

IV 阅读 (Reading) 15’
１、 快速阅读(fast reading／scanning)
给学生4分钟时间快速阅读这篇文章，并归纳文章大意(get the general idea)。
（4分钟之后）
a. 老师提问几个学生：Have you got the main idea of the text?
b. 向学生简单介绍这篇文章：
The text is a virtual interview. It introduced some knowledge about the Olympic Games to us. Pausanias was a writer in ancient Greece. He has come on a magical journey to modern day. He met a girl, Lili, and asked her some questions about modern Olympic Games.
c. 总结中心思想：
The main idea of the dialogue is：Compare the similarities and difference between the ancient and modern Olympic Games.
d. 引导学生总结现代奥林匹克运运会和古代奥林匹克运运会相同点和不同点。

２、 细节阅读(detail reading)
要求学生带着以下问题再读一遍文章并找出答案。

3 Why does Pausanias think Athens, Greece and Beijing, China should feel proud?

３、欣赏性／理解性阅读 (Study Language Points)
放录音，再次阅读课文并找出文章中新的语言点及有用的表达。
a. 学生课前预习发现新知识点
b. 老师分析文章难点，并帮助总结用法。
c. 欣赏某些句子。
４、篇章理解 (Discussion of Style)
篇章理解是对文章较深层次的理解，在解决完全部语言难点、理解全文后进行。
包括：分析作者的态度(attitude)、写作手法、体裁（style）、意义等。
V 小结 (Summing-up) 2’
１、学习完本课后要求学生记住以上所学的新单词及表达，会用英语和别人谈论有关奥运的话题。增加课外阅读量，训练快速阅读把握文章大意的能力。
２、阅读任务的其他两部分留第二课时分析。先让学生课后自己动手查字典学习这篇文章（发现问题－提出质疑－解决问题）。
VI 布置作业（Assignment）
（当天任务）
任务１：预习文章中的语言点，找出有用的表达及理解难点。查字典完成词语学习任务（发现词语搭配、用法）及发现句子结构等。
任务２：准备一个关于“奥林匹克”的故事或“希腊神话”故事，或评论：“有报道认为在刚结束的奥运会上希腊人在双人跳水中拿了金牌是奥林匹克山上众神的帮助”对此你怎么认为（开放性的题目，可以讨论）。
任选一个题目完成，下节课与同学分享你的话题。以 “free talk” 的形式在开课前进行。

任务３： 活动主题：“北京，２００８”
（自学能力培养） 假设你是一名２００８北京奥运会的自愿者，有一个翻译任务。对一个外国朋友介绍２００８北京奥运。就此编一个对话（内容提示：“新北京，新奥运” ／“绿色奥运，人文奥运，科技奥运”／ 申办口号：／ 奥运精神等）
（研究性学习） 假设你是一名２００８奥运会的自愿者，对周围不同的人群进行问卷调查。
步骤１：将你的问卷设计成１０到２０个问题（内容包括：对２００８年北京奥运会的了解程度／举办地点／奥运会格言及含义／吉祥物的象征意义／等）
步骤２：以表格形式列出各类人（性别、职业、年龄等）对北京奥运的了解／关注情况／心态等。
步骤３：根据你统计的数据小结你的调查结果，写出研究报告。
